On Thursday, September 9, 2010, Bob Stimpert, Director of the Regional Manufacturers Coalition, will be leading a round table discussion concerning items of interest for Ashland Small Manufacturers. This meeting will be an opportunity to share concerns, provide information on new ventures and projects and lean best practices from your fellow manufacturers.

This session is specifically for the small manufacturers in Ashland County to interact with each other. It is a great opportunity to hear how others in your field have dealt with the problems of being in manufacturing today. You may also take this opportunity to learn more about what other manufacturers in the area produce and how you can work together for the common good.

The attendees represented over 30 different businesses, 4 law firms, and various individuals seeking to establish contacts within technology based economic development in the region. The guest speaker, Andrew Vaeth from ExpenseWire, shared his story of developing his own business, highlighting struggles, triumphs and future goals of the Wooster based softwarett_speaker_7_2009 development company. His story served as an inspiration to those in attendance seeking to begin, or expand their personal businesses. The diverse group of business represented the region by hailing from Wooster, Cleveland, Columbus, Akron, Carrollton, Mount Vernon, Dublin, Fairlawn and Medina. With everyone still stirring with excitement over the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing, it was a surprise to learn that one of Braintree’s own business incubator tenants; Michael Vucelic, owner of I.E. Liquidation Inc., was one of the hundreds of support staff for over 10 Apollo missions to the moon, including the ill-fated Apollo 13 mission.  Michael, a former aerospace engineer quotes in the Mansfield News Journal that, “my responsibility started at ignition plus 10 seconds and ended with the landing of the aircraft in the ocean.” (Shillig, Mansfield News Journal).  Michael was a representative for a private California firm that NASA contracted in the late 1950s; North American Rockwell (NAR), whose primary responsibility was to build the shuttle’s command and service modules.  Vucelic also coordinated 12 scientists at the mission control station and dozens of other parts suppliers, builders, and engineers from California labs, who were ready to answer questions if something should go wrong with a mission.
