Workshop to explore idea of food co-op PDF Print E-mail

Mansfield New Journal February 7, 2012

MANSFIELD -- Basic legalities and rationales for establishing a cooperative will be covered in a free workshop from 8 to 10 a.m. Thursday at Braintree, 201 E. Fifth St.

The session is coordinated by the Agriculture and Local Foods Sector of the Richland Community Development Group in conjunction with the Cooperative Development Center at Kent State University.

The local foods sector is studying the possibility of a producers co-op to sell products grown in Richland County to residents of Richland County.

The committee seeks additional producers of agricultural products who are interested in this idea.

The session will provide attendees with tools to determine if a cooperative is the right choice for them. It also will identify the next functional steps for cooperative business development, and compare and contrast various business models.
